Saturday Coord and lolita journeys

This weekend is also hot. It seems like the hallway is air conditioned, but the apartment isn’t.  We may end up getting a portable air conditioner, because window units are prohibited.

Today’s outfit was F+F Musical Palmer JSK with a half blouse from Little Dipper, black ankle socks and shoes from Antaina, and the petticoat from The Black Ribbon.  It is hot, which is why I picked the socks, but OH MY GOD they look bad.  And now I have this picture to remind me that the black socks are not a good idea.  They have the little lace cuff, but you can’t see it. It looks like normie socks. What the hell.

These shoes look so great with this dress though, and even my boyfriend said he really likes these shoes.  He also thought initially that the little grey fabric piece by my sleeves was supposed to be a hood, and that this was a hooded dress. Sadly, this is not the case, but Fanplusfriend will probably eventually get around to that cut.

On Instagram, I have noticed the #lolitajourney tag and I think it is such a cute idea.  Right now, there aren’t many posts (and thus I am too chicken to contribute on instagram), but I love the idea.  So I wanted to compare the first coord I ever put on instagram to today’s coord. It’s also a good comparision because it is the same JSK.  It was my first time wearing lolita to an anime con and I was super excited…and today I just went grocery shopping.

In 2016, I had the flat petticoat that came with the dress, a normie blouse from Target, and my bow flats (that I actually wore out today because I had to drive :p no driving in heels). Today, I had a poofier petticoat, proper shoes (for the picture), a proper half blouse…and I still feel like the old picture looks better.  The tights for one, and the second excuse I had is that the mirror set up is still not great.  In today’s picture, it looks almost like I am leaning towards the mirror, and I think my arms look a little fatter too.  But I’ve lost a little weight since 2016?!? I don’t have a scale at home anymore so I can’t keep track as well as I used to. Maybe I need to tone my arms or something.

I was kind of hoping that some signs of improvement would be visible in the picture, but I think most of the improvement is in my head instead.  I feel more confident wearing lolita fashion, and I don’t think I care nearly as much about fudging on some of the rules, especially if I am just wearing it alone and not with other lolitas.  Back in early 2016, I was also in the mindset that wearing lolita was a ~special occasions~ kind of fashion, which is fine.  However since moving to Oregon, I have not bothered reaching out to the local com yet for various reasons (“I’m shy” “Maybe I will just run into them naturally one of these days” “I’m moving again next year so why bother” etc) so I have ONLY worn it out myself (with my boyfriend) for errands.  I hope that by being a lonelita, I am not getting too lazy.

To improve on today’s coord, I think tights are the way to go, and my hair is pinned up in braids, but I think some nice navy hair clips would look good. I almost never show bags in coord pictures, but I think that is something I should start doing once I get some nicer bags.  I don’t have any black wristcuffs so I usually just wear these black bead bracelets, but I would like to get something for my arms.  And as always, I want to slim down more.

Another quiet weekend

I forgot it was July because the weather has been nice, but then the hot weather has finally hit. There will be highs in the NINETIES oh no.  It will be this way all month, which means I will have to go outside early in the day if I want to go places.

This past weekend, we went to the hardware store and I got supplies to plant my basil and green onion

I’ve been growing them in water and the little pot from the store since I got them, but I would like to keep them alive even longer. Can never have too many green onions, and fresh basil smells really good.  I had a few weeks where it seemed like every other recipe required fresh basil so I figure it is good to keep on hand.  I looked for other fresh herbs at the store, but they were only selling seeds.

I also baked my first cake since moving.  Last weekend, I made some cookies that turned out nice, but cakes are prettier.

Just plain white cake with cream cheese frosting and some sprinkles (to make it look cute!) It’s not too bad, but I think next time I will slice the cake in half so I can add a layer of frosting in the middle.

Today, I was originally planning to go visit one of the parks, but it would be an hour by train AND it’s hot, AND I slept in super late.  I still ended up getting dressed up, but it was only to go shopping and sit around the apartment and blog about anime. Oh well.

Today’s outfit is my Angelic Pretty Aquarium Carnival Special Set, with socks and teaparty shoes from Sosic Shop, and a Black Ribbon petticoat.  The turtle necklace is one that my boyfriend and I bought together on a daytrip a few years ago. I only wore my hair down for the picture. I ended up braiding it and then wearing a sun hat to go out shopping.  I am thinking I want to find some simple headbands to wear casually since I feel so weird wearing a headbow out in public when it’s not a meetup (cause then there are a herd of lolitas with odd things on their heads so I don’t stick out).

Maybe next weekend, I can do something more exciting.

End of June Update

Angelic Pretty’s online store in Japan is having it’s summer sale on July 2 (so tomorrow in the west) and I can feel it in my bones that Sky Banquet and Sweet Lacy Basket are going on sale. The print name disappeared from the webshop, which is usually a sign of things either being sold out, or about to go on sale.  Sky Banquet (oh my bad, Banquet Celeste) even restocked in Japan and at APUSA, and it is about to be gone.  Sweet Lacy Basket was pretty popular, but in colorways that weren’t my preferred colorway (always pink > lavender > the rest, cause I am basic), so I wasn’t too worried. But once it goes on sale, it’s going to be gone unless there is a rerelease or MTO or maybe some special sets later on.

The rest of this is just musings so if all you care about is knowing AP Japan is having a sale soon, you can move along.

I am pretty bummed about this, but on the other hand, it may be for the best.  I haven’t worn lolita much since moving. I think this is for a combination of reasons (no com or friends out here yet, still nervous about going places by car, still nervous about wearing lolita on public transportation, being super exhausted by the time the weekend shows up, and of course how frustrated I am with how badly I fit into Romantic Cat). Plus, I have received two Soufflesong dresses I have not even opened since moving here, and my Arcadian Deer Fire dress is in the mail (still in transit from China according to tracking, but was shipped 12 days ago by Clobba, so who knows). So I really do not need to spend money on more dresses right now.

I did dress up last Saturday to go grocery shopping. A very, very toned down coord of my lavender F+F Chiffon Lover JSK. I really should have bought all the colorways of that damn JSK when I had the chance.  It is the comfiest thing ever.  I really need to focus on solid dresses, and I think Atelier Pierrot would have cuts I like but not in the colors I want.

Then last Sunday, we went to the local Chinese Mall. Not just a grocery store, but an entire mall…which was mostly a grocery store but it was inside a large mall-type complex with other shops including a cosmetics store, bakery, bubble tea place and some other shops.  I was curious about the cosmetics store, but it was disappointing.  There wasn’t much stock on the shelves (is this for aesthetic purposes?), and sheet masks were overpriced compared to buying online.  The grocery store was pretty awesome, and the bakery was amazing! We bought some steamed BBQ pork buns and ate those for lunch.  I wish there was a Chinese bakery on my route home from work so I could go buy more easily.

Yesterday, I went to get sushi after work with my friend from college, who was in town for a family event. It was so nice being about to see her, and makes me want to explore town even more.  After dinner, we did walk around a little, and came across a tea and spice shop, the downtown location of the French Bakery I love, and also a really amazing bookstore.  I really want to dress up and drag my boyfriend downtown to see these places and make a day of it.

I am going to try to focus on exploring rather than moping over the sales I can’t participate it.  It’s better to wear what I have and work on fitting into brand better than to spend money I can’t afford on things I will put off wearing.

Long Ears and Sharp Ears Kingdom of Faeries 2018 Release

Wow, they are releasing a TON of stuff here.

First, some tights! But you can only buy them if you are buying a dress with this release. Their page makes it sound like you may be allowed to buy them if you bought a dress from the previous release, but it is not clear.

But they are pretty! And I would never be able to fit my fat ass into them.

Now onto the dress cuts, since that is what I really care about. There is one OP, two JSKs and a skirt.  I am not going to post about the skirt because I would not even consider it.

First is Embroidery JSK I.

The five colors are light turquoise (first image, left), navy (first image, right), black red (second image, left), icy blue (second image, right), and emerald (shown below in middle of JSKII picture).  Also, this release is made of Kokka cotton, while the last release was polyester (although printed at Kokka, whatever that means).  Emerald and Black Red are repeats from the last release, so the light turquoise, icy blue and navy are new variants. I really like the navy. The embroidery on the bodice is a really nice touch.  This cut feels less like a fairy themed dress and more like European royalty, possibly due to the embroidery.

The measurements for this JSK are as follows:

Size 1:
Bust 80-88cm, High waist 68-76cm, Dress length 88cm, Length from shoulder to waist 31cm.
Size 2:
Bust 88-96cm, High waist 76-84cm, Dress length 90cm, Length from shoulder to waist 33cm.

The second JSK is this High Waist JSK II, and I really like it.  It is LONG. It has a POCKET (actually JSK I has a pocket too). I really like the little overlay effect. This dress has a cute fairy feeling to it.

Size 1: Bust 80-88cm, Underbust 70-76cm, Dress length 95cm, Length from shoulder to waist 28cm,
Size 2: Bust 88-96cm, Underbust 76-82cm, Dress length 97cm, Length from shoulder to waist 30cm,

Unfortunately, this cut is not more forgiving than the other JSK cut, also the whole trying to save money business.

The OP comes in three sizes, but there is no mention of pockets. But it is pretty and is also very long.  I have been wanting longer dresses lately so this would be perfect.

Size 1: Bust 84cm, Waist 66cm, Dress length 105cm, Shoulders width 34cm, Length from shoulder to waist 34cm, Sleeve length 63cm

Size 2: Bust 90cm, Waist 72cm, Dress length 106cm, Shoulders width 35cm, Length from shoulder to waist 35cm, Sleeve length 64cm

Size 3:
Bust 96cm, Waist 78cm, Dress length 107cm, Shoulders width 36cm, Length from shoulder to waist 36cm, Sleeve length 65cm

There is also a blouse they are releasing that has the same style of sleeves as the OP, which is a nice touch. But also, there are a TON of different accessories being released with the dresses.

This nice little lace bolero. It only comes in white, which is kind of a bummer but life goes on.

For headdresses, there is a crown, a bonnet, a round headdress, a flat type “Butterfly Veil” headdress, a pearl chain headdress, some ugly wristcuffs and a necklace. And something new is that these headpieces can be purchased without a dress order.

The crown. It can be purchased in a set with a veil and the chain headdress.

The chain headdress which comes with a veil but it’s not pictured here. Go figure.

The bonnet, which is reversible? How do bonnets even work.

The Butterfly Veil headdress, which I love.

The round headdress, which I also love. Except what the fuck are those fabric butterflies attached to the veil itself. That will be awkward as heck and I would remove it. Also, is this a headband or a clip? It looks like a clip and that would be really heavy…

Since this is the preorder phase, custom sizing IS available, for a fee of $12 or $22 depending on how much bigger you need to go. That is actually very reasonable for custom sizing fees, which seem to be going up all the time.

If I had money to burn, I would get the OP and the High Waist JSK, likely with one in navy and the other in emerald (since I didn’t get emerald last time).  The navy feels like a blue version of the Black Red, which I have and really like.  I would have to size up because their Size 2 for both are just slightly too small (I would be more comfortable with 98cm bust and 84cm high waist/underbust to be safe according to the +4cm rule, and maybe they can make the OP shoulders a little bit wider???). I love how long those cuts are though. I would also want the cute lace bolero, and the Butterfly Veil headdress and round headdress.

More Angelic Pretty Special Sets from the Anniversary Tea Party

There was a tea party hosted by APUSA today, which I didn’t go to for many reasons, but there were a ton of special releases today!  Some happy packs which I did not really have any feelings about, but also some special sets and starting MTO orders for Cream Cookie Collection. I swear that print is fairly recent and I didn’t think it was that popular, but once again I am proven wrong.  There were also some nice exclusive items, which is kind of funny since isn’t everything from Angelic Pretty somewhat exclusive?

Some rosettes and a $40 keychain! How exciting.  On to the Special Sets!

I posted about this Rose Museum Special Set a few months ago when it was released in Japan. This baby did not sell out today, because this print is over a year old and wasn’t even that popular to start with. But I love it. I wish I could drop the money to buy it in any color but pink (because I already have the pink colorway). I don’t care if this print has tacky clipart roses…this is my favorite print.

Space Lolipop is a stupid print, but I really like this cut, and again, if I just had $300 I could light on fire for no reason, I would get this.  There is only the white colorway available, which seems dumb to me. This one did sell out (I heard there were only a few available anyway), and since it IS a recent print, they could have made money if it was in various colorways.  But what do I know?

For some reason, I think this special set came out last year, which is false since this print didn’t come out til this year anyway. This cut is still ugly as heck to me. What the heck are those straps?  If the straps were less frilly, it could be more versatile. I vaguely recall the sax colorway being pretty popular, but instead they picked this new colorway.  If only they had picked yellow as a regular colorway instead of red.  The red cherries on a red background was a MISTAKE.

Wonder Patisserie was not super popular so why did they make a special set of this? Actually, this print on a wine colorway does not look that bad, but again, the cut is just awful.  It looks like a little girl’s pinafore.  Is that the point, since most of the Wonder (noun) prints are all related to Alice in Wonderland. Wonder Cookie, Wonder Queen, Wonder Memorie, Wonder Toy and so on…so it may make since for the cut to be something Alice herself would wear. But I hate it. (。◕‿◕。) But clearly it is a popular theme so someone out there loves it.

I am glad that none of these really call to me (not even Rose Museum…) since I really can’t drop any money on lolita or fun stuff at the moment. Still paying off moving expenses and then to save for moving again (to the Bay Area) early next year. At least they will pay for our actual moving expenses next year, but I still need to get together the money for down payments and all that noise. But maybe, if I am lucky, I will be able to attend an AP Tea Party myself in 2019.

Garnier SkinActives Soothing Line

Back in March, I splurged a little and bought some new skincare items that I didn’t really need, but bought anyway for three reasons:

(1) They are pink!

(2) They are rose scented/flavored!

(3) I have had really good luck with most Garnier skincare products that I have bought before so it’s a good chance that these would be good too.

It has now been a few months so I feel like I can give a decent review on how they actually work and if they are worth it.  Pictured above are (from left to right) the skin cream, the cleansing milk and the rose water facial spray.  The schtick Garnier is pushing with this line (as well as the Green Tea and Aloe variants, which also have a cream and a face wash of some variant, as well as something else if I remember correctly) is that they are naturally derived and free of GMOs and mineral oils, silicons and parabens, dyes and sulfates, and probably coal-free too. They are vegan as heck.  Neato.

The cleansing milk is excellent and does not leave my face dry after washing. This is something I have run into before with other face washes for sensitive skin.  It smells nice too, but is not a strong rose scent. I would buy this again.

The rose water is extra amazing and if I had to only buy one item from this line, it would be this.  I like to spray it into my hand with some Hada Labo Hyaluronic Acid toner and then mix it up and put that on my face.  I have also used it on it’s own, but the sprayer nozzle is very focused so it feels awkward. However, this is very handy for when I try to spray it on my scalp to moisturize my head. This stuff is great and pretty affordable for a rose water toner.

Last and least is the face cream. I wanted to like it, but it is super thick.  It does not sink into my face unless I rub the heck out of it.  And then I don’t really feel very moisturized.  This cream works well as an occlusive to hold other moisture in, but alone it does not moisturize.  On the bright side, you do get a TON of product.

It is heavy and makes a decent hand cream though, so that is kind of nice. But I was really hoping to find a nice face cream to use at night.  It is also very faintly scented, but does not smell remotely like rose to me.  Nor is it pink, which is a surprise since the face wash and rose water are pink, but this is not. I guess beet juice can only go so far, but then I just checked and I have no idea what the ingredient used to dye them pink is.  Nothing is specified.  I do like how the labels say that “this denatured alcohol is from this plant”, to help push back against the whole “chemicals are BAD” bullshit that seems to float around these days.

Do any of these products sooth my face?  The cleansing milk doesn’t dry it out, so it soothes by not messing it up. Not sure if the rose water is really all that soothing on it’s own, but it does help my dry head.  The face cream is not even remotely soothing, and I do not recommend it at all.  As for the face wash and rose water- I absolutely recommend them!

Long Ears and Sharp Ears Kingdom of Faeries RE-RELEASE

RIP my wallet.

Long Ears and Sharp Ears is re-releasing Kingdom of Faeries this Sunday! Four new colors and new cuts!

This is a new cut for sure, and I am thinking it may be an OP. Is that also high waisted? HMM.  This particular dress does not look like it would be plus-size friendly, based on those sleeves alone.

That light blue is really pretty too. I wonder what colors will be available. Last time, it was light green, emerald green, light lavender and black.  I also wonder if the old colorways will be available in addition to the new ones.  Making guesses with minimal evidence, I am going to guess that in addition to light blue, there will also be a light pink, a dark sapphire blue, and grey.

As for the other cuts …it is also a mystery! They don’t even have any of it up in their taobao shop.

I really want to get something from the rerelease, but I also found out today that my Fire Dress got in so it will be shipped to me soon.  I have that to look forward to.  But man, I really love this print. (・ε・` )
